As the 2011 Berg River Project comes to a close, CHOC WC would like to thank Attie Laubscher and the team for their outstanding contribution.
Many schools in Kwa Zulu Natal were identified to create awareness for childhood cancer. Our national theme was “HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER”. Our aim was to create awareness in previously disadvantaged areas where due to the lack of infrastructure people have limited access to essential knowledge. Research suggests that the earlier the diagnosis the better the prognosis. The response from schools have been unprecedented.
The following are schools that raised funds for CHOC during ICCD
On 15th February CHOC celebrated ICCD. The aim of this day is to create awareness of childhood cancer.
CHOC – KZN honoured the day by inviting a Magician to give the children in the Haematology Ward at INKOSI ALBERT LUTHULI HOSPITAL a treat. I am not not sure who was more amazed the children! the volunteers! or the mothers!
For ICCD and Childhood Cancer awareness CHOC representatives went to Discovery Health in Johannesburg, with CHOC products and items Keemo and Thandi soft toys and key rings, lanyards, ChOC Cookbook, gold ribbons and wristbands!
Thanks to Discovery for such a lovely day!

On a bitterly cold day on 7th August 2011, many people summited the SANI PASS in memory of Sayurin Archary who passed away. Contact us for the walk in 2012.
Our SW Honours students from UKZN at their placement at CHOC – Durban have been actively involved in providing family support to the parents at the CHOC LODGE. Social Workers are highly skilled in the principles of Case Work, Group Work and Community Work. They are the professionals that knit the foundations of community infra structure.
The Social Workers provide one on one support as well as conduct therapeutic group sessions with the mothers.
Together with this they went into the nearby Chesterville Community and have started to create awareness in schools, amongst teachers on the EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF CHILDHOOD CANCER.
They participated in a community awareness programme on cancer and thus brought awareness of CHILDHOOD CANCER to our nearby township.
We were proud of you and we salute you!
Several schools supported ICCD. CHOC’s theme is “HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER”. Instead of a Valentines Day, learners donated an amount to CHOC for the privilege of wearing civvies.
An amazing initiative that is supported by schools throughout KZN. All funds raised support our INTERACTIVE PLAY PROGRAMME in the ward.
THANK YOU for your support
