Many schools in Kwa Zulu Natal were identified to create awareness for childhood cancer. Our national theme was “HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER”. Our aim was to create awareness in previously disadvantaged areas where due to the lack of infrastructure people have limited access to essential knowledge. Research suggests that the earlier the diagnosis the better the prognosis. The response from schools have been unprecedented.
The following are schools that raised funds for CHOC during ICCD
On 15th February CHOC celebrated ICCD. The aim of this day is to create awareness of childhood cancer.
CHOC – KZN honoured the day by inviting a Magician to give the children in the Haematology Ward at INKOSI ALBERT LUTHULI HOSPITAL a treat. I am not not sure who was more amazed the children! the volunteers! or the mothers!
Several schools supported ICCD. CHOC’s theme is “HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER”. Instead of a Valentines Day, learners donated an amount to CHOC for the privilege of wearing civvies.
An amazing initiative that is supported by schools throughout KZN. All funds raised support our INTERACTIVE PLAY PROGRAMME in the ward.
THANK YOU for your support
One of our most committed supporter is Athlone Pre Primary School in Umbogintwini. The Principal, Teachers, Leraners and Parents pay for civvies day at the school. CHOC is the recipient of all monies raised.
THANK YOU!
The 1st school to particiapte in International Childhood cancer awareness day on 15th February 2012.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between CHOC – KZN and Mohan’s Amusement Machines (MAM) to raise funds for CHOC and create awareness of the St SILUAN’S EARLY WARNING SIGNS of CHILDHOOD CANCER.
MAM has kiddy rides in major centres as well as in the rural areas. Each ride will have a sticker with the Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer. MAM will give a portion of their funds- per month- from their rides to CHOC. This MOU will last exactly ONE year to be reevaluated. We applaud MAM for partnering with CHOC. So when you see a Kiddies Ride with the CHOC LOGO, know that a portion of the money goes towards CHOC and supporting programmes for children with cancer and life threatening blood disorders.
Hillcrest Secondary High School in association with CHOC raised a substantial amount and gave the teenage ward a facelift at IALCH.
“KEEPING MORE THAN HOPE ALIVE” is when a group of people get together to make a difference and despite the outcome of treatment.
The CEO of IALCH Mr Mtshali attended the launch and was most generous in his praise of IALCH’s partnership with CHOC.
Our thanks go to The CEO, Medical Managers, Matrons, Sis Veronica Groom: Mrs Les Moffat and the host of learners involved in this amazing initiative. The choir impressed us with their beautiful voices.
The Learned Professor Jagesar addressed the guests on the seriousness of cancer.
