REVLON Celebration of Life Fun Walk held on Sunday 30th October 2011, Zoo Lake Johannesburg
“A Day to be Remembered” by Zinzi Mngadi CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation S.A
Most of us enjoy walking, most of us walk to be healthy, to feel good and most of us need to walk to get from one point to another and for some, a walk is merely a moment in time when the world seems like a path of peace. For others a walk is an action; taken in support of something valuable to them and motivates them to stand up for a belief or cause that gently sits in their hearts. With the promise of rain in the early hours of the morning, one doubted whether there would be a high turnout of walkers, whether the rain would be a disturbance or a mere interruption to the day’s start. The most amazing thing happened, within a very short space of time, as more individuals arrived to register at the well-organized registration tables, the more the sun’s rays began to hit the trees and bring new hope of a clear blue sky. And indeed, the sky cleared and allowed for the day to be even more beautiful.
This was a day filled with smiles, enthusiasm, team work and most importantly the wonder of how magical the human connection is, all in one day over a two-thousand people participated in the Fun Walk, there were all kinds of dogs, walking partners, laughs and hugs as some would reach the finish line, jumping and joy at the happiness of finishing their 4km or 8km walk.
But best of all, was the support shown for the Celebration of Life Fun Walk and the reminder that life indeed should be a celebration, in the lives we live, in the lives we touch and the lives we change.”
